The New Portishead

So Fadia returns from New York, and brings a gift.  Evidently her roomate’s boyfriend subscribes to Remix magazine, of which the May issue features an article on Portishead.  So… I’m trippin on how Geoff Barrow is roasting Mark Ronson and big uppin MadLib for about an hour, when I flip to other pages of the magazine, and see my (Thomasan) face.  OH SHIT!!!

On page 14, Max Herman of REMIX called us a club-meets-backpack act.  We’ll take it.

Damn Joe…

It’s a Chicago expression, but 50 Cent took it to the next level.

Daddy Fat Sax On Ice

Look at that pimpin’ go!

No, not really. It’s Big working in collaboration with The Atlanta Ballet.

I saw some video from the rehearsals. Let’s just say, I’m not excited. However, I am curious to know what type of people enjoy both Big Boi and ballet. Like… who went to see The Nutcracker and Who’s Your Caddy? Do they even exist? Apparently, someone seems to think so.

Our New Little Buddy

About a week ago, we were fortunate enough to hook up with producer, Derrick “Drop” Braxton.  Without going into too much detail about his credentials, let’s just say that Lupe Fiasco’s got a “Gold Watch” now.  During a session, “Drop” decides to take a break from all the boom bap, and play some tracks from his “artist”.  Imagine our surprise when we discovered that the songs that followed had been recorded by the soft spoken girl struggling to stay awake in the next room.  ”Son!  That voice is not supposed to come out of that body!”, or something like that.  Don’t believe me?… listen for yourself, cause Jessica is buzzin‘. AND… she came to see us perform at SOBs. How cool is that? Well, she got there late, but it’s still pretty cool right?

Firebrand Plugs Proton

Shouts out to Firebrand for mentioning us in his top 5 ATL acts to look out for in 08.

You can check out the actual post on Creative Loafing’s website. ATL HIT LIST

PROTON rocks @ Mic Club

We did this show along with Grip Plyaz, Mach 5, and Rita J. before heading out to New York.  The original audio from that evening was a bit distorted, so the video’s been backed by the actual tracks.

[SOBs] PROTON in NY

As many may have heard, we recently performed at SOBs in NYC. Also in the house were Amanda Diva, Q-Tip, Talib Kweli, Peter Hadar, and John Robinson. Thanks to Amanda for inviting us onto the bill, sorry if I (Thomasan) came off a as bit niggerish. I blame it on slavery.John Robinson kicked off the show for Hadar. We know John Robinson from back in the day ATL when he was known as Lil Sci from Scienz of Life.Peter Hadar is featured along with Proton in this month’s URB Magazine as one of the Next 100.Proton took the stage next, and did our thing. We were told repeatedly that this would be a great show for us, but that NY can be a tough crowd and SOBs is known to boo folks. Since we were received with applause and laughter (when appropriate), I’d say it went extremely well. After a nice set from DJ Wonder, who also handled the music for our set (thanks again buddy), Talib pops up and performed pieces of his more popular material before introducing the headliner. Amanda Diva brought the house down with a huge display of personality and charisma. The girl’s got style, and stamina. I swear she was up there for like, at least 45 minutes. Oh yeah, and did I mention that she performed a song with Q-Tip as well. That’s what’s up.

That NY Show Ya’ll Keep Asking About

NY was cool.  Wasn’t even that cold.  Sure it snowed the day after we left, but whatever…

Shitty sound system, great response. Nuff said. We return on the 12th of March to rock SOBs w/Amanda Diva.
